  • Car Buying Question?

I've been looking around for a cheap SUV, found a few at some dealerships I'm going to check out. They are around $6K asking price.

Since these vehicles are cheaper is there still some room to get the price down more? Like if I offered $5K out the door, is that possible?

Also, if buying out right the dealership shouldn't have to run your credit report corrrect?

They won't run credit for a cash deal. As far as pricing, there isn't enough information to say what you could get them down to. Are we talking note lot or dealership? What kind of vehicles are you looking at? How long has it been on the lot?

I'm looking at actual dealerships, SUV's to be exact is what I'm looking at. Not sure how long they've been on the lot though?

If you are paying for it with cash and wont be financing, they wont be running your credit.

The asking price will generally have some wiggle room, but that may only be a few hundred bucks.

The type of car lot plays a huge role in this, and "actual dealerships" is a pretty broad term here. Are you talking about the used lot at a new car dealer, or a mom and pop cash only type of lot? Tote the Note lots usually wont post a cash price, since the cash price is technically the same as a financed price, but that also goes either way too.

Don't tell them you are paying cash until they get the price where you want it. And don't play their stupid 4 box game. Strictly negotiate on price, tell them you're not worried about what the monthly payment will be. Once you agree on price, then drop the cash bomb. If they know that up front, they generally won't negotiate as much.

The last one I bought for cash was listed at 8200 I got it out the door at 8000, paying cash.

I bought one in 2006 that was listed for 32,000 and I got it out the door for 30500 cash, That one took over an hour of negotiating. They have some room on them but it is not always a lot.

LOL! I had a car dealership try that shit on me once. I told them all they were doing was moving shit around from one box to the other, not reducing the price... they didn't like that I called them out.

It is difficult to negotiate with a dealer because either you or they have to pay tax title and license immediately, and usually an inspection. At a dealer if they include ttl in the asking price I usually consider that a win

Will they sell you a $6k car for $5k cash? No, but if you play the game I would consider $5600 out the door a victory

the dealership i worked at would pull credit on a cash deal to clear the buyer off the OFAC list. company policy.

I would have walked out, there is no need for a credit check if you are not financing.

Well they didnt want to sell a car to anyone of the terrorist watchlist so the intention was good, but still pissed people off. Also, i think it had to do with the Patriot Act, but i dont recall. Also would do it if it was a personal check from the customer. Used a check guaranteeing company and they required this to guarantee the check.

They have to pull credit on all car deals. Dept of Treasury and Homeland Security requires it to make sure you aren't a terrorist. At least it was that way when I got out of the business in 07
