They do story time for the kids & community activities that are great to take advantage of.

Libraries are becoming more and more one-stop-shops for books, magazines, internet access, and basic tech support, etc.

Have a friend whose wife is a librarian (has two masters degrees) and loves it. She reads to kids for story time, helps people with tech issues, and generally has a good time helping people find information.

Libraries are a small forgotten refuge for those of us who like quiet and reading books for free. There's just something about the smell of a book that helps your imagination wander whilst reading a great story.

You don't NEED a public library!

We try and take my daughter when we can. She really likes to read so anything to keep her mind going is a good thing.

recently, we saw a family out for a meal and each of the 3 kids had their own dvd player going, during dinner! family was just sitting there, not talking!

As far as the Library, I think theyll be around a while. I dont see the need for them totally disappearing. I still go for a nice quiet study place if I need one. I also still borrow a book from them from time to time.
The above is more common than not these days....

A large percentage of the populace is already in their own little techno-world, unable to deal with life outside-of-the-device.... real people\family and real problems included.

The devil in me is kinda curious to see just how the general population would react if all the lights and gadgets just "turned off" one day.

It would be anarchic, at best.

Get rid of them along with all the taxes and crap that supports them. Not saying they can't provide good services, but crap, I send too much of my hard on money to jackwads to determine what a "good service" is, fuck em and feed em fish heads! That they pay for themselves!

Every time I'm in a library everyone is using the internet and there are 2 or 3 people actually looking around at books.

You do realize that funds would only be redirected and taxes never reduced...correct?

Oddly, I think they'd discover a lot of fun things to do. I'm pretty much on the Internet all day for work or personal purposes. When it's not available, life is good.

I agree though, limitations have to be put on them for sure.
