  • Personal Property tax on a leased vehicle?

We got hit with a personal property tax bill for a leased car. Googling around, it looks like it could be exempted from taxation with the state, but would still be subject to taxation at the city level (only certain cities in Texas opted to continue collecting this). Has anyone else gotten hit with this? Any way around it?

We pay it to Carrollton every year. Have not found a way out of it yet.

I think the first question you should be asking is why in the hell you would opt to lease a vehicle in the first place.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.

If he's got to drive a lot for work, leasing is the way to go.

Or if you don't drive a lot and want a new car.

Unfortunately, the company you lease the vehicle from has to pay the taxes as they own the vehicle. They, in turn, bill you for whatever they get charged by the city, county, state....

Don't think there is any way around it as you don't own the vehicle and can't claim any exemptions on it.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

no way out of it unfortunately, except to move to a different city.
