My son started with random "words" around 6 months. He's 14 months now and jabbers constantly. It's not like he's forming distinct, well-pronounced words or combinations of words, but he has about 10 English words that he says that are pretty spot on. They sound very much like the word and he says them in the correct context. He jabbers a bunch of other ones repetitively that I can only assume are Mandarin - his daycare teaches him that.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Three things you can do if you are worried:
1. Read to your kids. Studies show that parents who read to their kids have better vocabularies and they also start talking sooner and form sentences sooner.
2. Require your kid to talk. If a kid can grunt and point - mission accomplished. They don't know any better. If they want a cup of juice, say "juice" to them. Require a response and reward them.
3. Don't baby talk to them. Say the words correctly to them until they get it. They learn diction and pronounciation from you. You can't expect them to learn properly if you don't teach them properly.
