I never understood why the folks in the Zombie movies don't just aim their sites on one of the nice coastlines and nab up one of those serious badass boats...just anchor the fucker a few hundred yards from shore and make sure you've got a dingy to go in once in a while for supplies, diesel for the gen-set, etc.

Can you paint a scenario? Are we talking lifetime of SHTF, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years...etc?

In the end, I'm good for 6 months. Due to a variety of reasons I can do 6 months I think. past that, I'll have to turn very nasty - but otherwise do not have the resources to sustain my family past that point. That's reality. If water does not get one or more of us, overall sickness will. Little things like strep that are no big deal to a 3 y/o now - will be the death of them. Even if I had ad-hoc medicine, the extra strain on the body without excess food, water, cooling/heating may do it.

There are a shit load of variables that I think people cannot anticipate, or prep for at all. If the SHTF, it's just going to plain SUCK.

It's not a matter of how long *I* will last, it's how long I can sustain life for my wife, 2 kids and live-in mother-in-law. I'd eat freaking worms and drink muddy, boiled water to make it. Still, I'm at risk of sickness and so forth.

Being in shape is a great up front asset on your part though RD and basic skills. Hunting/fishing well be precarious at best in my opinion though. Especially within a 150 miles of the metroplex. Every tom, dick and harry around going to be going out to do it too. Kind of wish I had the assets to put in a pond in my back yard and stock it.

Anyway, I personally don't believe we can plan for a SHTF like we think we can. We will all need to be flexible with our methods.

I have about 30 cases of water already stored, Plenty of seeds for vegatables. My buddy gabe feeds 6 chickens I own & have two pigs, But still dont think I will be ok. Even with my spouses 2 handguns & 2 rifles. Im not sure its going to be enough to protect my livestock or family when shit gets real. I plan on my family going to the country & I would come back out to the city & loot, First get me a Dually & find stores getting looted & get mine & fill my truck up.

The cities here are full of hipsters, i wouldn't have too hard a time robbing them blind.

we've got guns, lots of ammo, a good stash of food provisions, and a trailer to hook to the truck and GTFO with if possible. We could survive near one of the creeks or rivers nearby for a short time, and i guess if i had to i'd try and make my way down to vegas and rally with the pops and my friends for one last hoorah.

Btw if you ever wondered, nearly all mega store retailers have a large big block cummins generator which is a ford 468? I believe, that runs on natural gas to power the store in case of emergency. They never need oil changes and can literally run forever as long as it has natural gas. I can take a picture of the one we have at my store they are magnificent

In all seriousness though most major retailers will be raided within the day of a major catastrophic event
