Which direction you go on the river (it's on a fork) is up to you. One way (north) will take you back into the woods, the other (west) will take you along the Trinity trail where you'll see lots of cyclists, runners, etc.
You can rent standup paddleboards there also.

Mainly want to be able to paddle around in coves and smaller lakes.
By cargo space I just mean enough for a decent sized backpack (like a hiking pack).

Also considering Canoes as an alternative. I don't plan on shooting rapids or anything, so that may be a better option. But that presents other issues due to the larger size and weight.

I've done multi day trisp camping out of my kayak and it was loaded with fishing equipment as well as food. The scramblers have a decent amount of hull space and room on the yak. Just need to be weight conscious

I was chomping at the bit to do a Devil's River trip with Shane Davies--especially after the recent reports here and the fact that I was forced to turn down two previous chances to fish with him (because of work). So I was already pumped up when we put in, but I was still immediately struc...
Here's a write up I did on one of my trips. There's a bunch of pictures of my scrambler and my buddies Malibu 2 (Both Ocean Kayaks) loaded down. Also a good forum for those of you who like kayak fishing
And just for reference in regards to weight I was around 190 in these photos. By hull space, I ment internal as far as my scrambler. You will definitely want an internal hull or you will get rolled if it's choppy
