                      Negative. The 96 is the car to get. If you get a tan interior the 96 door pannels look better. The 96 did have a cooling system recall so as long as it has the 97+ radiator its fine. Plus in 96 one cam was a little different and made better power. I have a hard time finding it online but I have an old "Super Fords and Fast Mustangs" as well as an old "5.0" magazines that talk about it. Something about their distributor and finding a cheaper place to grind them but the new grind was a hair less agressive. If you order one the part numbers from 96-98 are all the same so if you had to replace a 96 cam it would be the newer cam.
                      There was also an article about a guy with a red 99 Cobra back in the day that was always the fastest NA stock class Mustang and he made it a point to have the 96 cam in the C headed car. I just cant remember if it was the intake or exhaust cam nor can I remember the spec difference they foound.

                      I will look for the magazines in storage and scan the articles. I always thought that was a neat bit of info to have.

                        Oh yeah, I would get a stick Mach from the OPs original choices though.
                        Put 03/04 Cobra side skirts and rear bumper and spoiler. Dude on Stangnet did that and its still one of my favorite cars.

                          Stick mach 1. ^ keep the mach 1 parts, I don't like the cobra parts on them :/

                          adding on to what you said...an n/a cobra engine would run like ass. 8.5 comp makes it a gutless turd...ok for boost, but n/a it's worthless. (manual) machs have the forged crank and an aluminum block, and higher compression pistons (10:1 I believe).

                              So the 98 Cobra doesnt have better flowing heads then the 96-97 cars?

                              I think stock for stock the 98 cobra makes more RWHP then the 96-97 cars. Now the cams in the 96 cars might be better grinds. But power wise on the SN95 Mod motor. Im pretty sure the 98 make more RWHP stock for stock against the 96-97 Cobras do stock
