Was he tall, gray hair and all around looked SUPER old? If so, it was probably Jimmy and he forgot he even went there.

We saw that guy too.. But after rewinding a couple of times you could tell it wasn't. I think it was the flat top. I was confused as to why he was wearing gloves with his short sleeved shirt..

Looks like he was upgraded from critical to serious, Officer John Bell 21 years on the department and is in the traffic unit.

Damn it, I know him. Some of y'all might too - he raced a black/white fox body with a SBC in it in the Beat The Heat. One of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. Prayers sent.

I just put naynay on my ignore list. Went back and reread this thread, SOOOOOOOOOO much better. (First person I've ever set to ignore on a forum.)
Anyway, back to the point. JP135, if you talk to him or his family, tell them he is in a lot of people's prayers, and on a lot of peoples mind. If someone knows of a legit donation site or any other way to help let me know.

Wounded Fort Worth officer's condition improves

Fort Worth police have identified the officer who was shot and wounded yesterday while confronting a suspect in Haltom City.

Officer John Bell's condition has been upgraded from critical to serious by doctors at John Peter Smith hospital.

Bell is a motorcycle officer assigned to the Traffic division. He has been with the Fort Worth police since March 1992.

Bell was with two other uniformed Fort Worth officers in an auto repair center near Carson Street and Highway 121 on Tuesday when Haltom City police were chasing a suspect.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, abandoned his car and ran into the auto shop, confronting the three officers.

Bell was reportedly shot at least three times.

Fort Worth police have set up a donation fund at the Fort Worth Police Awards Foundation. Anyone who wants to make a tax-deductible contribution can visit this link, and note on the donation "for the officer injured on 1/29/13."

The suspect was shot in the confrontation and taken to the hospital. His condition is not yet known. Haltom City police are still investigating the case.

That may be why that other guy was wearing gloves.. May have been another motorcycle officer.

That doesn't make any sense. Don't they get paid leave if they are shot?

I would assume they go on disability (short term, then long) and that often means 60% of base pay, no overtime, no side jobs. So depending on what OT and side jobs they have, the money can be brutal. Hell, even if they get 100%, still have the OT and side job issue.

I always pay extra with my work insurance to get the additional disability protection. Really cheap and well worth it when it's needed.
