A outflow boundary has pushed about five miles ahead of the line of storms. This outflow boundary cuts off the warm air supply to the storms. That's why they have not strengthened yet. Eventually the storms will catch up and get their warm air supply back. Until then, the storms will remain strong but not too severe.

Hopefully that helps explain what has been a unexpected quiet period.
