Man car shopping has sucked! One turd after another and rediculous prices. Seems EVERYONE is flipping cars. Its pissing me off cause people who really need a GOOD car cant get one cause these ass hats are buying cheap cars, fixing nothing and selling them for tripple what they bought it for! I keep seeing it with cars that I pass on due to serious issues and some ass hat buys it and doubles the price while doing nothing.

One car was in my shop. Mid 90's audi 90. Cars engine mounts were gone so bad that the engine hit the hood when reving it, timing belt was about to snap, dude put oil in the brake master so the brakes are completly shot, clutch is fried, shift forks bent, entire front end needs a rebuild, electrical issues like crazy etc etc. I said scrap it. He put it on CL for $2500 and said "Only problem is brakes are a little spongy. Car is perfect otherwise and spins the tires through third."

WTF?

Another dude comes in with an 02 VW Passat. Blown headgasket, shot turbo, bad timing belt, airbag issues, ABS issues, missfire, needs brakes and a host of other stuff. He just bought it for $1500. He decided not to have any repairs done and next day it was on ebay for $3000 saying it was a great first car and the engine ran perfect.

No wonder the van I bought Sunday I sold today so quickly. I bought it dirt cheap, fixed all its issues with OEM parts, cleaned it up and sold it for couple hundred shy of book. Had people lined up but I lost the damn key and had to have them come out and vin cut and program a new key. Couple people went for dinner while waiting and one couple waited. The ones that waited knew right away it was solid and didnt ask for a penny off.


I realize its a good way to make money but for focks sake, dont screw people over and lie or buy a problematic car for dirt cheap, sell for full book without putting some effort into making it a car worth what you are selling it for. I deal with sub $3000 cars and these are good hard working country folk that need a good reliable car, just couldnt sleep at night if I screwed one over.

Flippers are looking for cheap shit at tax season and the dealers are scrambling for cheap cars right now because shit is going for STUPID prices at auction. I have an 00 F150 for sale right now, but it has nothing to do with my lot. I keep getting these asshole dealers coming out and nitpicking/fabricating negotiating points. I can spot the fuckers from a mile away and I don't even hardly bother with them. I admit that it has a few small issues that i just don't have time to jack with, but that is why I am a grand cheaper than anyone else.

As for auction prices, I will give you some examples of last time I went.

97 Saturn SL1 Auto - 188K - Heater was stuck on, A/C wasn't working, Oil all over the engine bay, peeling paint, flat tire, radiator fan out causing overheating. Sold $1100.

98 Saturn SL2 5 Speed. - 347K miles. Running OK, but horribly dirty, needed A/C. Sold $850.

00 Ford Explorer XLS - 182K - Looked good, ran good, everything seemed to work. Sold $1800.

97 Honda Civic auto - 180K - Looked good, ran good, exhaust leak up front. $2400 on call.

95 Buick Park Avenue - 120K - Looked good, ran good, interior was ripped, bald tires. Sold $1900.

98 Mustang 3.8L auto - 220K miles - Drivers quarter panel FUBAR, drivers door FUBAR, otherwise OK. Sold $1800.

I bought 03 Cavalier Sport LS 5 speed - 152K miles - Appeared to be in great shape. Won for $1500 on call, seller negotiated me up to $1600 and I took it. Bad drivers wheel bearing, 3rd and 4th gear missing.

That is why the dealers are sucking up every decent car that isn't nailed down.

and from 158 it may only take 10 secs to hit 160.. you gotta rule out all variables when dealing with C-listers

speaking of assholes that flip cars... here is an idea i am doing this year, got it from my friend that has been doing it for a few years now... buy as my junk cars as you can really cheap starting in sept and unload all those fuckers in Feb at the auction and double your money... let all the stupid dealers mess with them...

How would you send them through without a dealer friend? If you do have a dealer friend, you better pray he has priority access to the auction, otherwise your cars will be at the back of the line and will bring way less than they should.
