this thread is full of win and fail all at the same time. I would consider this line of work, but I'll be damned if I'll ever work in a union.

My buddy Shawn drives a train (hes rich, obviously) and he told me a story about a bunch of boxes being stacked up on the tracks, and as he approached two black kids ran away from the boxes so he locked the train up. When he stopped, a little black boy popped up out of one of the boxes.

Yea I got a couple buddies that think the same way. It's really ironic they turn down a six figure income, health insurance, and a retirement. Especially when they make less than 30k a year, have no health insurance, have no retirement, and their family struggles just to survive. All cause they claim they'd never work for a union.

We couldn't even speak the word union without being in fear of getting the axe.

That would give me nightmares. Just to be on that position and be helpless at the same time.

Know a couple people that do it, and one who has the prospect. From everything they say, the hours are hell. Absurd scheduling. Seldom ever even get Christmas day off, they have to argue like hell just to get that. From the time sink they say that job is, I would certainly never do it. I like feeling like I have some kind of existence other than work. If train divers make that much money, its likely due to the fact that no one in their right mind would do it otherwise.
