A Weatherford man, soaked in blood, was arrested late Wednesday at a Springtown home after authorities found the body of a man in a master bedroom under a blanket, investigators said Thursday.
The man covered in blood admitted to deputies with the Parker County Sheriff's Office that he had used a pickax to kill the victim during the night, authorities said.
The name of the victim had not been released pending notification of relatives.
The suspect was identified as Nicholas David Camfield, 24, of Weatherford. He also had the alias of Fatty or Dick Camfield, according to Parker County Jail records.
Responding to a welfare call, deputies drove to the 200 block of Valley Meadows Drive in Springtown at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The caller had said that a friend had been missing and had been with Camfield.
At the house, deputies found Camfield, covered in blood, inside the house, which he had been house-sitting.
Authorities also found the body of the man, who appeared to be in his 20s in the bedroom.
"This was a particularly brutal homicide," said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler in a news release.
Camfield told deputies that the victim was an acquaintance.
Deputies and Texas Rangers continued on Thursday to determine a motive for the slaying.
Camfield remained in the Parker County Jail in Weatherford on Thursday on suspicion of murder. Bail had not been set.
