Man soaked in blood arrested in Springtown pickax killingramirez@star-telegram.com (Domingo Ramirez Jr.) 01/17/2013 11:13 AM
A Weatherford man, soaked in blood, was arrested late Wednesday at a Springtown home after authorities found the body of a man in a master bedroom under a blanket, investigators said Thursday.

The man covered in blood admitted to deputies with the Parker County Sheriff's Office that he had used a pickax to kill the victim during the night, authorities said.

The name of the victim had not been released pending notification of relatives.

The suspect was identified as Nicholas David Camfield, 24, of Weatherford. He also had the alias of Fatty or Dick Camfield, according to Parker County Jail records.

Responding to a welfare call, deputies drove to the 200 block of Valley Meadows Drive in Springtown at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The caller had said that a friend had been missing and had been with Camfield.

At the house, deputies found Camfield, covered in blood, inside the house, which he had been house-sitting.

Authorities also found the body of the man, who appeared to be in his 20s in the bedroom.

"This was a particularly brutal homicide," said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler in a news release.

Camfield told deputies that the victim was an acquaintance.

Deputies and Texas Rangers continued on Thursday to determine a motive for the slaying.

Camfield remained in the Parker County Jail in Weatherford on Thursday on suspicion of murder. Bail had not been set.

The Regional Supreme Court has ratified a 23-year prison sentence for Javier Stephan I.M. in Almería for having murdered his wife using a pickaxe. The 31-year-old condemned man had inflicted 24 blows with a small pickaxe to the victim’s head, before making sure of his intentions by slitting her throat.
His defence lawyer had lodged an appeal, which the high-court magistrates had rejected as it was apparent that the man had acted with ensañamiento, means that the act was done in such a manner as to cause the maximum suffering for the victim; i.e., cruelty or malice.

The court finding included, “He could have brought about her death by other less painful means, such as with a knife, which he finally resorted to,” adding, “but his intentions of killing her were accompanied by a desire to unnecessarily increase her suffering.”
The murder took place on the 18th of February of 2010. Javier Stephan had found out five days previously that she was having an affair. On the day of the incident there had been a strong argument at their home in Calle Poeta Gonzalo de Berceo, where they lived with their two young children.

Suddenly, the man grabbed the pickaxe, which he had hidden beforehand under a mattress and struck her on the head with it. She fell to the floor and he, “taking advantage of the fact that she could not move,” inflicted a further 23 other such blows to her head as she twisted to escape from him.

ONLY assault hammers and assault pick axes.

There's multiple deaths every year from getting hit in the head with full cans/bottle of beer. When do they confirm the illegality of high-pressure assault beers?

Also portable phones and TV remotes. Can't tell you how many family violence assaults I've worked where somebody got pissed and threw the phone or remote at the victim.

                        Where's the justice?
                        What about the children?
Will our schools ever be safe - each one has multiple phones and remotes stored on-site.
