That car looks like it is in front of some new government housing on the east side of FTW.

Isn't it nice to know our tax dollars are going to make nice places for them to live for free while we work our arses off?

What are the thoughts on these? I'd like to remove the pushbar and go with some different rims, but no ghetto-gangsta-thug look.

Getting one of these is hit or miss. Even though they are "maintained", I've seen some go almost 3k miles overdue for an oil change. That used to be OK when they were changed at 3k miles, but the city has gone to 5k mile oil changes to save money.

The way these cars get driven hard, I would not buy one, unless you could find one that was a Lieutenant, Captain, or Deputy Chief's car. One that never saw a pursuit.

Even if you do find some for auction, you will have to fight the Yanks for them. The last major Tarrant County Drug Seizure auction had about (4) guys down from New York / Chicago / Boston...etc buying them up like hotcakes for $2k - $4k each because they go and turn them into cheap cabs and make back their money in a couple of weeks.

Just make sure you don't get into the bidding frenzy, I tried to get a 2003 Honda Civic from the FW. Water Dept. and it went over Retail...idiots.

I have thought about picking one up to fuck around with but just haven't taken the leap. I know there are a good amount of the Fort Worth cars up right now, I think they are scheduled to close around the 20th.

Yes, usually the lock mechanism is hidden in the door jamb so it's only accessible from the inside with door open.

I wouldn't buy an ex cop car... when we remove the wiring, lights, etc from them we cut tear and rip shit out when knowing its going to auction. While the cars do get their regular maintenance without fail, they also frequently get new suspension and body panels from the accidents and incidentals from being a service car. IF you pick one up, pull the dash down from underneath and make sure the clipped wires are capped or at least taped. also check under the seats front and back for anything you might be caught with at a later date, i can't tell you how many items i've found, paraphanelia and drugs alike, under the seats of a squad car.

The thought of someone in the back seat bleeding all over the place, grosses me out.

                  But I wouldn't mind a blue one.

Would you marry an ex-hooker? The car may be even more ragged out.

People bleeding, puking, pissing on themselves, and slinging snot all over the place after being pepper sprayed.

                      No thanks.

5k mile oil change intervals have been around for years and now being extended to 10k+ with a synthetic oil. 3k oil changes = waste of money.

If a guy in a black suit shows up from Exxon-mobil, run.

my dad picked up a 99 that was driven by a detective or someone not on patrol. it is a P71 but did not have a light bar, cage, spotlight, push bar or extra electronics inside. it has carpet floor and cloth seats, and the front is a bench seat with fold down armrests. it has 120 or 130k miles i think but has no problems other than some normal things that need to be changed(brakes & a arm bushings are the only things left)

we put on new shocks all the way around and got some taller/stiffer springs for the rear due to the early models having low/soft springs. you can check out my thread here:

my dad has a 98 crown vic police interceptor that he uses as a back up car or when the weather is shitty. the rear end sags and after looking online he found out that they made taller springs for the later years to keep them from sagging. he said the springs he has now are E springs. later they made F and H springs, with H

after we swapped out the shocks and springs it rides great, only thing is when pulling in and out of the driveway you can hear the a arm bushings.

runs great, only bad thing is that it eats a lot of gas. havent calculated it but i would guess 12-14 mixed driving. i am sure some spark plugs and injector cleaner would help a bit

Some driving schools are buying them for student cars and then just throwing them away when the engines go.

Personally, i'd do one like the 87' model in Men In Black. Nasty sleeper with a built aluminum 408 and a T56!!!!
