mac mini's are a pain in the ass to open.

All you need is a screwdriver, getting them back together is the hard part!

I also heard you can bend a putty knife into a good tool so you dont break the clips.

Yeah the putty knife is the best way of doing it, it's a lot of work, well just a bit time consuming really. Bad design on that model, the new ones are simple like they should be for memory upgrades.
