Odds are it's just a bug and he will fight through it. You know your kid better than anyone so if you feel he's normal let him be, but if a fever spikes you can't bring down or he gets worse take him in. As long as he has 1 wet diaper daily and he produces tears when he cries he's fine. If his eyes look sunken or his skin doesnt retract back after a light pinch take him in....I highly doubt he'd get to that point before you noticed something was up, but just in case.

If mine were playing too hard when we picked them up from school and we bundled them up, took them outside, and put them in a warm car, it wasn't unusual for any one of them to throw up. Same thing if they had too much juice or milk and played too hard. Grace will still throw up late at night if her dad feeds her too much sugar and sends her back to us. There are plenty of non-viral things it can be. Next time, tell your MIL to keep pedialyte singles on hand and let him have little sips. It was probably just too much too soon on a queasy tummy.

Also, they say that the high fructose of the BRAT diet does more harm than good by killing the good bacteria in the digestive tract, so it's something to use sparingly.
