  • Private health insurance questions

I think my monthly family amount for my works insurance is insane. Considering looking into getting my own and dumping there's. needs to be a family plan (2 adults, 1 toddler) with co-pay etc. insurance is a foreign language to me but quickly realizing that my current employers insurance is double my prior cities.

Question is, what is the average cost of family health insurance monthly? If I were to go buy it myself. This is probably a vague question, sorry but again this stuff doesn't make too much sense. (Wife sees specialists and Goto her doc once a month).

How much was your prior city subsidizing on the insurance cost? When I was working for the city, they paid the entire cost, but that's pretty much non-existent now.

Those specialist visits add up with quickness. If you're going to look for your own private one, I'd read the fine print on what they say about any pre-existing medical conditions. Taking on the entire premium payment by yourself has got to be a fortune I'd imagine. Find out what the deductibles, co-pays, etc are. They're really nickel and diming you nowadays. Pretty much anything outside of the actual visit with the doc is applied as a co-insurance deal. i.e. blood work, or pretty much anything else.

I know my mom pays $1k a month and my brother pays $300 a month for private insurance.

Just out of curiosity, what are you currently paying per month for your health insurance premiums only?

Private party insurance is not cheap, or at least until Obammy saves the day...

I pay $135/mo for Humana One. It's not a Cadillac plan or anything, but it would keep me from being financially ruined in case of something major and has covered my Dr visits for minor stuff with a $35 co pay. I believe it has a $5k deductible for major claims. I believe with 2 adults and a child it would run around $300/mo, maybe $350/mo.

I pay $430 a month for me and my 2 boys. My wife gets insurance from free for work but charge out the ass for the rest of us. I go through blue cross blue shield, but their deductible and overages are getting insane. We all have a separate deductible and 80/20 after that. Kills me when someone gets sick.

It will all depend on what company it is with. My wife used to pay close to $500/month for just herself before we got married.

I have Ins. through my work and I pay $309.01/month for Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance for 2 adults and 2 kids.

It's not too bad, but it has gone up quite a lot in the last 5-10 years.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Around $425/mo. for two adults and one child through BCBS.

Hate to break it to you, but you won't find better on your own... It all depends on what the employer contributes towards your premiums, which is what dictates your payment.

Private party for a family is no less than $700/mo and that is bare bones.

UP is self-insured. $5,000 MRI cost me $30. Just had shoulder surgery. Torn labrum, rotator cuff, biceps tendon, etc. $40K surgery cost me almost $300 including hospital and anesthesiologist. Doing PT 5 days a week and costs nothing.
