    It appears obvious to me why there is a sign in my home town post office describing the federal offense for striking a postal employee...

          Until the postal service is privatized, this will be the norm. Even then, it would not be perfect. UPS likes to turn lots of packages into accordions.

            You're probably right, but the last thing I want to do is give these clowns more money. I really wish I could just opt out completely. 90% of what I get in the mail goes straight in the recycle bin, and the other 10% could be done electronically or through UPS/FedEx.
