Im having a hard time typing this as Im doing it....but I am dealing with a 9 yr old border collie that has become aggressive over time to the point that he is attacking another companion he has been with for 9 years at random when he has bad dreams and wakes in the middle of the night and goes after her......and tonight as I yanked him away from her he growled and snapped at me. This isn't the first time he has attacked her from being woken up late at night...whether its a bad dream or a thunderstorm...or just from being excited by a loud car or truck passing by...but I cannot have him turning his startled anger toward me or another person living here (my 65 yr old mother). This is a tough decision I have made...but I believe it needs to be done. I am in Red Oak (ellis County)...and I believe this needs to be done before something bad happens.

Can anyone recommend a place to have a family pet put down?

Most vets understand and will handle this with diplomacy. Your best bet is to go in, have a meeting of the minds and then schedule the appointment. Country vets are generally more familiar with having to put down aggressive animals than ones in the city who always deal with "Fluffy" and "Precious". My vet in Terrell is an straight forward no nonsense country vet who we've seen for the last 30 years. If you want his info i can PM it to you.

I realize probably too far, but Dr. Mohr and his staff at Seagoville Animal Clinic has handled 3 of mine. Price is $40 and they are very caring. They allowed me to pick up one dog from the back door because I couldn't bear carrying her through the waiting room past all the other people and kids.

My parents had to put down their 15 year old Border Collie. They always used Menser Vet Clinic in Waxahachie off of Business 287. They creamated the dog and put the ashes in a very nice box (wood IIRC). I am not sure how much it cost but it was much nicer then giving the dog back to them just so they could dig a hole in the back yard.
