Wasn't Scientology formed out of a drunken bet?

I seem to remember something like that being said by Jaime Kennedy, who is supposedly L. Ron Hubbard's nephew or some shit.

I do find it interesting that Scientology uses pretty much the same religious symbol as Christianity. Scientology's cross just has a bit more flair to it.

Huh, I posted it because it was a funny in a "doomsday prepper" way - yet a few of you want to go on a shooting spree? You need to get back on your fucking meds.

Frost - people around you should fear for their physcial safety. You are just not right in the head.

Any "Belief System" (notice I did not say religion) can generate people who can and will kill others that do not believe in the same (insert generic issue here). Unfortunately, I think its part of the human make-up in some cases.

The whole all\present Christians are evil because of the Crusades line is usually towed around by militant athiests with an axe to grind.

Religion (even a generally peaceful one such as Christianity) has been used in the past as a cover for the powerful to control the masses and become even more powerful. In many respects, any "Belief System" can be used as the means for the same types of goals, sometimes leaving large amounts of misery and death in its wake. Political beliefs can be just as effective in achieving this...

For more info, feel free to google the Russian and Chinese Communist purges.

Oh I know plenty of history, both religious & political, thanks for typing up shit I already know to make yourself feel better about your belief system.

I don't need to google things I'm already familiar with. Thanks anyway!

Used in the past and still being used in the present.

No shit. It's the whole point of religion, and always has been. To control the masses.

Scientology is pretty new, give them some time. In the mean time they have con'd alot of people out of alot of money and then used scare tactics and threats to keep them quiet.

That being said I wouldnt say kill them.

I'm more of a Theist but thanks for the incorrectly assumed response anyway...

All christians are theists, not all theists are christians. I think you meant Deist.

                              Disagree....

While it has been\can be easily used for such goals, it is not the "point".

Also, many of the same things can be said of politics.
