I feel bad, but I still think I did the write thing.
Don't feel bad dude. My brother texted me the other day wanting to borrow my car to buy christmas presents since my stepmoms car was in the body shop and was using his truck to do the same. I told him to go fuck himself (jokingly) and just offered to haul his ass around. He was cool with that. My reasons were different though. I drive a fivespeed and he has very limited experience driving a stick, especially during high traffic shopping times.

It's just my mother yelling at me and her being mad at me. And sure, I could have said "come get it." But then that would just be one more hand out that she would have gotten. One more thing someone helped her overcome. Maybe I should've, maybe not. Neither one will talk to me now so I guess it doesn't matter.

In reality, she wasn't really asking for a handout, just some help. Like my original post said though, that truck is too big for somebody that's not used to driving it. She'll get over it. If you feel bad about your mom being pissed, tell her about getting a rental. If you split it three ways (which you shouldn't have to anyway) it'll be like $10 a day.

I was just gonna get in before the edit!

FWIW I've lended vehicles, job leads, thousands of dollars, etc to family members when they've "needed it", nothing good has come from any of it, and I don't think I've got a thank you ever. In return I've got maybe $400 back, a few damaged vehicles, and I'm still the "instigator" of arguments according to some of my family. I can't win. It's no wonder why I spent Christmas on the beach in California with no family!!!

I offered. It was too late to then.

I agree on her ability to drive it. I thought it was funny those were the reasons my mom wouldn't let drive her car, she drives a Saturn Sky Redline.

When my sister was 17, my mom let her driver her 98 Corvette for a little while. She ended up wrapping it around a pole on MacArthur in front of the fourseasons on a wet road.

This F250 used to be my fathers, then I ended up with it. Long story short, he'll be getting it back in a couple years, but before it was lifted, he let her drive it and she thought she could fit through the gate at an apartment complex - nope, didn't make it.

And my family wonders why I wont let her drive anything I have control over? No way.

damnit, i'm full of typo's tonight.

                • Personally, I think everyone has people in their family they wish they would grow up.

I think they try to help how THEY think they need help, whether that's right or wrong. I mean I would feel like shit if my sister actually lost the one job she likes and plans on keeping. But now I'll be the reason she lost it, and they'll both hate me if it happens.

It's one of those things that if you do lend-out the truck, and something happens, you're an idiot. If you don't, you're an asshole. A no-win situation, but one of them won't cost you any money LOL!

                            • Not a chance in hell, my sister wanted to borrow my last F150 to go see her backwoods cluster fuck of a family she married into out in Louisiana. I just laughed at her.

                              • Nope. Don't let her. As stated, since Mom has been her shadow, let her figure it out. IIRC the crank sensors on those piles of shit are a real pain in the dick to get done right.
