  • Any one have an uncontested divorce lately?

Friend of mine is seeking divorce from his spouse. Had two quotes for $2500.00 and up. Children are grown and they have a house together. Being this will be uncontested, I cant figure how this can cost them that much.

My divorce (uncontested) cost me $750.00 in 2004. I had a house and a child in the equation.

If they can pull this off uncontested, then all they need a lawyer for is to shuffle the paper work and fill in the forms. What does it cost now days? Any lawyer recommendations? Tarrant county is where they live, was married in Johnson County if it makes any difference.

They don't neven need a lawyer. It costs about $350 if you file it yourself. All the forms can be found online. It isn't rocket science. Go to the clerks office with the forms filled out, they tell you what to do, boom, 60 days later you show up again and you're divorced.

You don't have to use a lawyer. My uncontested in 06 cost $500.

That is retarded expensive. I helped someone file their own a couple years ago and it wasn't a big deal, those lawyers must be slow and trying to make one job a weeks pay. I use a lawyer now that would do it for under $500 going by his honesty/hourly rate charge, but he's not in TX.

Glock from CTD for $~500 then you can have a new pistol for target practice after your "divorce".
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

You can find the Decree forms online, and basically it's fill in the blanks. You can change things in the Decree as long as the other person agrees to it. Cost me around $500 for all the filing fees and having her served a few years back. You file, they set a court date, then you go before a judge. If the other person agrees and signs, or doesn't show up then the judge just signs off on the decree and you're on your way.

Cost us around $250. Very easy. No lawyer needed. You can get free decree blanks online. That's the only part that takes more than 10 minutes is filling that out lol

You can wave the serving fee too if something is signed. I never once even went to court. The ex went the 2 times it was required. And I signed a waiver. But we did agree on everything.

Yeah, the serving is optional, but oh so gratifying if you give them her work address to be served.

Sounds like a good way to ruin the "uncontested" part. lol

I agree with most of the info above. Those prices seem a little high to me, but not crazy based on the going rates in the DFW area. Back when I did them in the early 2000's I used to charge $1,500, plus the filing fee and costs, which was considered a good deal. The petition for divorce, the waiver of citation and decree can be pretty simple depending on the situation. Once you have those, all you have to do is wait the 60 days and go to the court for a prove-up hearing that takes all of about 5-10 minutes. How old are the kids?

Beats the $500k variety I know a guy is going through. And that's just attorneys fees.

I know someone who paid that two months in a row. They had almost 8 digit net worth, and after the divorce the only remaining asset was the equity in the house they had to sell. Both parents had to step in to pay the final bills because there was literally no cash left. The wife would agree to something, but when it came time to sign the papers she would flip out and change her mind. Took almost two years if memory serves.
