I couldn't agree more. Right now I'm a desk jockey, living paycheck to paycheck, trying to find my place in life. I have many interests and admirations of careers I'd like to do, some which would make good money, others that would just make me happy, but none that I really want to go out and do. I'll be honest, I feel like my calling is to be serving my country in some way and I'm currently looking into several government jobs along with military. My goal is to have found something by this May/June and have a decision made for it. From now till then I'm getting my ass back in shape to prepare for the physical demands that may be asked of me. The jobs I have in mind aren't the most glorious jobs but it's something I keep coming back to explore and look into deeper.

As simplistic as this sounds, I like making shit. I enjoy working with wood, though that is a skill I need to develop more. I'd love to learn some other trades as well, particularly welding. Not to build turbo kits or anything, but to facilitate building shit. Furniture, cabinets, storage solutions, etc. I'm really itching to build a overland / expedition vehicle right now, and would love to get into that.. IDK though, those things will require a good deal of start-up money and will be very inconsistant as far as income.

My grandfather was a master carpentar / cabinet maker for most of his life and I envy that. I don't want to build houses, or limit myself to installing shit, I want to be able to do alot of custom work. I feel like I have a good sense of creating solutions in creative ways and that would be the kind of thing I would enjoy. It just seems that making the jump from hobbyist to business would be quite tough.

I just wish I would have thought all of this through more when I was 20..

Sitting at home with nobody to catch you masturbating isn't "the dream?" Could've fooled me. Just kidding.

Yeah, I agree with you and am extremely happy with my personal life, I just don't feel like I'm making the most out of my working life. And I'm not just talking money. I would be thrilled if I made a living wage ($50k - $100k) doing something I love with no real shot at becoming a millionaire.

I know I took some aptitude stuff back in high school. I think those indicated I should go into Hospitality (Hotel / Restaurant management) or Radio.

That reminds me of my brother and a conversation he had with a cousin. My cousin was a senior in high school and my brother asked him what he wanted to do career-wise. My cousin responded with "I want to make alot of money but without having to do much work".. My brother responded "Sorry, I already have that job".

My guidance counselor in hs told me I was fit for the military, I think the recruiter paid her off.

I'm indifferent to my job for the most part. I don't love it, but I'm good at it, and am satisfied with the money I'm making. I got in at a pretty good time, and the company related investments have been paying off in a big way. Couldn't tell you what I'll be doing 5 years down the road.. Or at this point even 5 months from now after the way my year ended. Still back in college, still with a long way to go to finish my Undergrad.

Me too brotha. The hardest part for me has been keeping myself motivated and out of trouble until I find out for sure if i'm eligible for the USCG or not. My life is all coming to a junction in june, then from there i'll have a better idea what i can and will be doing with myself.

                      Two words: Rental property.

My goal is to purchase several, maybe ten or so, rental properties and let them generate income for little effort on my part. Yeah, it sounds easy to say and I know there are problems associated with it. But I know several people with multiple rental properties - each of them are rolling in cash.

The tricky part is making that first purchase... soon, very soon I hope.

What might keep you from being eligible, if you don't mind me asking?

You can't find passion in a book or a test, only in expeirence and trying what moves you.

Probably some kind of franchise I can parlay into a diversity of franchises, and then flip once they're paid off. I'm working a few different ideas out right now, fwiw.

I've been saving my pennies, trying to get a food venture off the ground. Sitting down this week to hopefully work out a lease arrangement on a "kitchen", to get my licensing and all that.

Not going to start out the way I had hoped, but, we should be able to get off to a rocking start, recoup startup costs in a matter of 60 days or so, and build from there.

That said, I don't know that I will ever quit my current job. I love it too much. I'm in line for partnership, and if this restaurant thing takes off like I think it will, I may take myself out of the partnership agreement, and just be a regular sales rep. I'm a workaholic, unfortunately. Thanks, Dad, you asshole.
