I'd find friends who like it and try some of their cheaper recommendations (or better yet borrow a glass from a good friend). If you find someone who consistently gives good recommendations then you know you share their taste and can step up to the more expensive (older) scotches. All the scotches I've tried from this thread have been excellent.

I saw a flow chart somewhere and step 1 was something to the effect of "Do you make CHOO$$CHOO$$ money?" If no, stick to blended whiskey or rum.

That's why I drink Vodka... it's the drink of the poor LOL

When it comes to Scotch, I only like Islay stuff... I've had some high end Highlands stuff and it just seems so soft and boring compared to the peaty stuff

LOL I love vodka. I also like to mix up some cheap whiskey or bourbon and cola. Since I now have an antique decanter, I might as well blow some cash on a booze to put it in, and it might as well be something that I will actually drink now and again.

Not knocking or being cheap, but how does this bottle warrant its pricetag?

Think about it.. They are making a product and fronting manufacturing costs that they will then have to store, and generate no revenue from, for over 25 years.

Imagine making parts sales at work that you won't get commission on until 2038! lol.

I did some googling: apparently there is some attrition while ageing, and you loose a bit every year, thus the older stuff doesnt net as much as a younger product. Pretty interesting.

I assume it has a different taste and flavor, but Im sure not going to buy to try.

I read through all 8 pages of that thread. Thanks for the link, I dont think I would have found that in a keyword search, or at least read the rest after the first page.

I'm not a huge scotch fan, dewars and the like taste like a used band aid.

I don't mind an occasional glass of balvenie, or however it is spelled. I treat scotch like Canadian whiskey, ill drink it if someone offers, but I rarely buy the stuff.

I stick to irish whiskey, and mostly bourbons, maybe an occasional American whiskey
