Private equity firm Cerberus has put U.S. firearms maker Freedom Group up for sale following Friday's killing of 20 children and 6 adults at the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut.
Freedom Group includes Bushmaster, maker of the rifle used in the shooting at the school in Newtown. Cerberus bought Bushmaster in 2006 before adding another 10 makers of firearms, ammunition and accessories to the group.
Wasn't it already established that this jerkwad left the Bushmaster behind and used handguns instead? Or did the media get that wrong too?

All initial reports said he took the glock and sig in with him and left the AR in the backseat but now they are saying he took it in. I firmly believe the AR wasnt even used but the liberal media has ran with it to further their cause.

Seems that Dick's is no longer selling semi auto rifles at any of their retail locations. http://www.wweek.com/portland/blog-29567-dicks_sporting_goods_clerks_say_their_stores_have_stopped_selling_semi_automatic_rifles_in_wake_of_m.html

Nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction.

With big investors like the California teachers retirement fund (or whatever its called) they are just trying to appease their backers. Someone else will step up and pick up the stuff that's for sale.

They are dumping it due to the emotion and hype thanks to the media at a time when gun sales have probably never been higher. S-M-R-T.

Cerberus is simply getting out while the getting is good. Any smart investor might very well do the same for financial reasons.

I'd have to agree. Cerberus is doing what is best for their investors. They don't care about the debate, they just don't want to be in the middle of it.

If they were taking sides on the debate, they would simply close the entire business down so they never make weapons again.

I would think it would be best to stay in untill the surge of people buying died down. Im sure AR makers are making hand over fist right now.

It could be, and like Strychnine posted emotion drives the actions of many investors. I did see a crawler claiming that S&W dropped 10%, perhaps setting the stage for a future buy opportunity.

Investments have been trading on 2014 numbers for months. Some Q4'12 1x spike doesn't mean shit if guidance is down.

I have never purchased a gun from Dick's, and with how they are reacting to media scrutiny, I probably never will...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Note to self: Avoid threads with a hint of ecomonics in them as you are probably mistaken. Read many leather bound books on the subject. Reevaluate in the far future.

Buy low, sell high. That's all there is to it.
