Government should ban assault rifles

Ive been thinking about this. There is no reason you need a gun like that as a citizen. You cant give me one good reason. If you own a assault rifle do your american duty and turn it into your government for destroyment. Handguns are ok but no one needs a rambo-like gun on the streets.

First, you should define Assault Weapons. Are you using the Military Definition or the bullshit definition? Those as defined by the Military are already illegal for most people to own. You have to have a special permit that is issued by the ATF. That kind of REAL Assault Weapon can fire at full auto or burst. The so called "Assault Weapons" like the bushmaster are not capable of that. They can be modified for full auto but that is already illegal. You can also modify semi auto pistols for full auto.

I'm sure that the guys here can point out several non-assault weapons that would be better to use in a massacre than the Bushmaster.

My main point here is that the last Assault Weapons Ban was just feel good legislation that did NOTHING. In fact, many of those "assault weapons" continued to be sold after the ban. The manufacturers just removed the flash suppressors to make them legal.

But let's say we do create a new ban. How do you get people to turn those weapons in. I sure as hell am not. All you will do is create a new black market which gives organized crime a new revenue stream.

Hand guns are not reliable man stopper AT ALL.

Rifles with a few exceptions are much more powerful then hand guns.

Rifles are considerably more accurate then a hand gun lessening the chance of a shot going wild.

Rifles are easier to operate for someone who doesn't practice shooting on a weekly bases.

Handguns are basically toys and are only useful for protecting ones person at a relative short range. While on the other hand the existence of rifles in private hands is what keeps the government in check and is what will beat them back down in the relatively near future.

If I thought that turning my guns over and never owning another would save those kids lives, Id do it in a heartbeat. Too bad its not that simple. I have an ar15, it just sits in my closet. Wouldnt bother me one way or another if I owned it or not. Only reason I own it now is the fact I know it will go up in value. Im a big live let live kind of guy. Im all for people being able to own a gun of their choice as long as they dont hurt others
