Could it be that the model is showing a deviation of -14C and -18C from normal rather than absolute temps?

Where are you at in Afghanistan?? I spent most of my time in Sharana and we had knee deep snow and -25 lows to 5 degree highs from January to end of March.

I was at Sharana from 2007-2010. Never really saw knee deep or -25 but I am no weatherman. It did get really fucking cold.

I am at BAF right now. Worst winter I ever saw and I have been all around this country has to be Gardez since they are near 8,000' or 2006 Kabul. That was a brutal winter with legit knee deep white stuff.
