Pinning a difference down is between the handgun which he legally could not purchase and the rifle he could. We have been told both were his mothers (reported that she showed them to her female neighbors as hers). Now this may sound absolutely terrible but, if she knew he had issues (has been reported) how did he have access to them? How did she secure them? OR did she purchase them for him? You probably know that I am a supporter of the 2nd Amendment and no more restrictions than we already have. This is going to turn into, and in a lot of cases already has, the biggest push to date for stricter gun control laws. I only have the internet and no TV but can already see the headlines on Yahoo that have already popped up.

Just a personal side-note: I belong to an "acoustic guitar" forum. There are a lot of talented people on there, and a guy did a rendition of "Oh. very young", by Cat Stevens, as his tribute to the kids that were killed. Reality sort of hit me, and it was all I could do to keep from crying like a baby.
I've always said that my biggest fear was for a suicide bomber to walk into an elementary school, and pull the pin. For me, this is about that same scenario. What has our society become?Comment

I still can't even fathom anything remotely appropriate for this tragedy. I saw the pictures of some of the victims and it just brought me to tears.

I don't think I am going to read the news for a couple weeks, every 5 minutes the story changes.
The story sounds no different than all the others, socially awkward kid, probably on meds, and no one did anything with all the warning signs. Everyone is too worried about being politically correct instead of facing the facts. You can try to modify gun control laws but this is not going to stop until we face the facts.Comment

Several newspapers have speculated that Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza may have anonymously revealed to the internet what he planned to do. Screenshots purportedly of posts on a 4chan message board show a user intending to kill himself in a way that will make the news on Friday morning, saying only that he lives in Conneticut (sic). The post is accompanied with an uncensored photo of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the Columbine school killers, after they had committed suicide.
However, the screenshots are unquestionably fakes. Firstly, the timestamp of all posts to 4chan's "/b/" message board includes hours, minutes, and seconds – the last of which is not present in the suspected posts. Secondly and most importantly, individual posts within each 4chan board are incrementally assigned a unique number. The ones supposedly of Lanza are marked as 443521730 and 443522192 and dated Wednesday 12 Dec but, as a Free Republic forum member points out, there is a thread dated Friday 14 whose first message is numbered 443511730 (and is still there as I write this). In other words, Lanza's supposed messages were thousands of posts ahead of a number which had not been reached at the time and had yet to be reached two days later.
My fellow tech blogger Mic Wright has written an excellent post on how tragedy turns social media users into amateur detectives, whose attempts to make sense of it are frequently beginning with Facebook's search feature. But the above shows people's fetish-like interest for finding out about someone infamous is willing take a new turn, inventing the digital footprint of someone sinister if their curiosity can't be satisfied, knowing full well that it will titillate ours, too.I wear a Fez. Unfortunately there will be many more like this...will only get worse. There was an attempted mass shooting on Saturday at a hospital and a thwarted attempt out west (close to Aurora or Columbine?) with an arrest this weekend. With the press on this one it is scary to think that more like this can come. Weird coincidence that something similar occurred in China (kindergarten) the same day but those kids all survived (knife attack).
