The gun control nut-huggers are going to latch onto 2012 as a banner year for their cause. Batman shooter, Oregon Mall shooter, and now this.
Sure, the availability of firearms has made it easier to kill a gaggle of people in a short amount of time. But in reality, it's only facilitating a deeper issue that (I think) needs to be addressed: why are there so many nut jobs going on killing sprees? The weapon of choice means nothing. The mindset is the real crux of the problem. How many guns did the 9-11 terrorists use? How about Timothy McVeigh? That loon in China from today? My point here is short and bittersweet... People that decide that A LOT of people need to die to further their cause will find a way to make it work. Even the Columbine kids used a shitload of IEDs. When someone decides that mass killing is the way to go, they're goin to make it happen.
Now on a darker note (and playing devils advocate), what if the availability of firearms actually MIMIMIZED the death toll? If this guy or the mall shooter or the Batman shooter had just detonated a decently made bomb instead of shooting, it's a given that the death toll would have been MUCH higher in all cases. Realistically, sneaking 2 pounds of C4 wrapped in 2 rolls of duct tape and 10lbs of roofing nails is MUCH easier to conceal than an AR15.

I read on here more then I post - but this tragedy absolutely terrifies me.......
I have a little girl in Kindergarten and one in 2nd grade.
I teach 7th and 8th grade special education - I can assure you at my campus (not going to name it here for now and would appreciate it if the dfwmustangs detectives didn't figure it out and post it either) the front door and most of the back doors are not locked. The office can not see the front door and people walk into the building all the time uninvited. I frequently have parents show up in my classroom in the middle of the schoolday without having checked in at the office first. There is not a police officer assigned to our campus; but the campus is very close to a police station........ Security is nonexistent. The school consists of two buildings - so if it was kept locked students wouldn't have access between the two building.
Even if doors are kept locked - the typical adolescence would not think twice before opening the back door to the school if they saw a strange adult knocking...
I understand that most teachers would choose not to - but it just takes one. Teachers with a CHL should be allowed to carry at school.
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the the pursuit of happiness......, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive to these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,

Yes- but adolescence kids watching each other wouldn't do much to catch a crazy like this. It does get the occasional kid busted with weed.
