Having a conversation about nightmares doesn't equal sleeping.

Im not saying reject them from being un your bed all together. I am saying to not let them sleep in your bed all night.

I'm serious, my wife won't understand why and I'm not even going to try and explain it.

Mine slept in their own crib in their own room from day one. I had a cousin who ended up sleeping in his parent's room until he was 11. I wasn't about to let that happen. My daughter is 7 and I will let her sleep with me if Craig is out of town, but that's the only exception.

              This. Leah's method mirrored ours.

My boys never spent 1 night in our bed. If they were sick, we would go to their room. My sister-n-law had her kids sleep in their bed until they were almost 10.
My wife and I never understood this.

My daughter slept with us for about a week after she had pins put in her elbow when she was 2, now she'll come in but soon gets back into her bed.

My son slept in his own bed until he got sick and then had to have surgery. Now he tends to crash in my bed which is fine with me. I get twitchy when he's further than arm's length away.

Oddly enough, I have the same issue when my knife or pistol is not within reach

I started making my 9 year old daughter sleep in her own bed this year (reluctantly). I only see her on the weekends so it was nice to have the extra time with her. Being 9 years old I figured it's way past due for her to sleep in her own bed so now I lay with her in her bed with her until she's asleep.

I've never let my kids sleep in my bed. One time my 6 and 8 year olds came in our room because they were scared. I made them lay on the floor and within 10 mins they were all the sudden fine and went back to bed

I apperciate the responses - even the ones from the peanut gallery. I will suspect this will go on until his friends at school find out he sleeps with mommy still - and then I'd imagine it will stop. He plays soccer on a regular basis in McKinney YMCA - so maybe his soccer friends will find out eventually. He hates to be embarrased - don't we all at 5 years old?

How is living in Lewisville around the 75077 zip code? I might be buying a house soon (if everything keeps falling into place) in that area - Garden Ridge/Main/North Valley area.

I was scared of thunder storms when I was a little kid and I would go jump in bed with my parents. As far as I can tell, it didn't scar me for life. I never slept in their bed other than that and I'd say I probably stopped around 7 or 8.

My son is almost two and he has never once slept in my bed (though my favorite time of the day is when he falls asleep on my chest on the couch). I have family that let their kids sleep in bed with them until they were 8 or 9 years old. I'm not really against it, per se, but I sleep extremely light when there's a kid in bed with me.
