A traffic attorney can help. I had my license suspended for 3 years...I got it back in less than 1. I paid one surcharge, talked to Randal Scott (Dallas, Denton county only) and he had my license back to me within 2 weeks. I didn't even ask him to do it....

For the record- this is unrelated to surcharges. It's all over the FTA.

My brother had a similar problem with the state claiming they mailed him a letter and he never received it.

Sorry to say this Brent, but welcome to the club. I was in the same scenerio about 2 years ago I think. It's kinda shady IMO, but look on the brightside, I'm sure they want some surcharge $$$, but what they want is going to be alot less once they change the damn laws on all that fun stuff. All in all good luck! I would much rather pay a lawyer then give the state more undeserved money.

But you go fucking with my job, with which I feed my family, and we have a problem. I don't understand how a license can be suspended without notification, hearing, etc.

I had something similar go down like 12yrs ago or so...

I got a ticket in Dallas... I paid at the Dallas court...

fast forward some months down the road, I get a letter about an FTA and license suspension... thankfully I had my receipt. I sent all that shit to Austin, and I get a letter back saying the FTA is dismissed WHEW!!!

until I got pulled over in New Mexico about 6 months later and they threaten to arrest me on DWSL!

the state wanted $50 to reinstate my license... dicks

this exact same thing happened to a coworker of mine. i work for the city of austin and they pull our driving records when they want and called him in the middle of the day to tell him. he could not operate a city vehicle. that is a scary feeling when your job demands it. he got it taken care of within one week. i'll ask him what he did.

1-800-686-0570. Its called Omni and it will tell you everywhere you have a ticket that will put a hold on your license and suspend it. Once your ticket gets into FTA status it is like getting another ticket. You signed the ticket promising to appear in court and then did not. FTA's are fees paying for collections, warrant officers, state fee's, etc etc. Once you take care of the FTA, you should be able to fix your license. There might be a surcharge from the state but I can not remember now.

                        ....

That's a shitty deal what the state does. My BiL had a similar thing happen. He got a ticket, took defensive driving, turned it in. Everything was taken care of. One night, he got stopped. They had a warrant for him because they said he didn't take care of the ticket. Since he didn't have proof on him, he went to jail.

The system is set up to make you fail. They want your money.

That's kind of my point. I don't have a problem paying an FTA. I forgot about the ticket, I can take the lump. But $7fucking00? Jesus. That's over double the ticket itself.
This is beyond that at this point. I had 20 days to file for the hearing, from the date on the letter that I never received. That was my only way to appeal. Now it's mandatory 1 yr suspension, because I didn't get the letter.

Supposedly I can get an occupational to the tune of a couple thousand or so, I'm sure. Took going through 3 CS people at the DPS to find that out.

                          I don't know how

You should check they may have messed that up. I believe the max on promise to appear is 500. Most cities do not do the max either. 700 is over twice what ours is and almost 4x Dpd.
