Apparently not, but this isn't uncommon after speaking to two attorneys and the DPS themselves.

This is long and drawn out, but I'll try to keep it short...

Some 2ish years ago I got a speeding ticket in East TX. Came at a busy time, it was forgotten about, etc. This racked up an FTA. Fine amount for speeding was something like $250. Go to pay the ticket, and the total amount is over $1000. Figure $250 for the ticket, so the FTA is $700+. I'm not paying it. Period. I've hired an attorney to handle, which took a while to find one, being in the middle of nowhere (Hopkins County).

Fast forward to March of 2010. I got a speeding ticket in Palmer. Apparently, my license was suspended at the time. Officer made no mention of it, didn't threaten to take me to jail, nothing. So I do deferred on the speeding ticket, no big deal.

So now the State gets involved. Apparently, the State sent out a letter in November that my license would be suspended for the period of 1 year, starting December xx 2010 - December xx 2011 because I received a citation while DWLI. Again, this letter was never received. It was not signed for, it was not opened, it was not received.

Now, it's too late for me to do anything about it. Again, over a letter that I never received. The DPS admittedly said they have been seeing a lot of this lately, but "that's just too bad".

that sucks. I just got back from the state doing my license and registration- let me say, the lack of concern by their employees is daunting.

I deal with the State a lot for work and have that issue. We have to send something certified for the State to accept it was sent but they operate under the assumption that if they sent it, you received it (with no verifiable means).

My speeding. That's fine. I'll take my licks when I get them, and I don't complain about them either.

But you go fucking with my job, with which I feed my family, and we have a problem. I don't understand how a license can be suspended without notification, hearing, etc.

Apparently a notice was sent to me in the mail (that I never received), and I had 20 days to file for a hearing (again, could have done if I had known anything about it), otherwise my license would be suspended for a period of 1 year. Nothing I can do to reinstate it.

If I don't drive, I don't work. Period. That means my house, etc will all be gone, over a letter, that I never received.

Let this be a lesson to all those who don't have their current address on their DL's. Ah fuck it, FTP!!!

Nope, all my info is current. Been at the same address for 5 years now, and the info on file is all current.

I don't know if it's the same in TX but when I lived in CA and had a suspension I was able to file for a restricted license that allowed me to drive for work.

                            Silver '01 Vette - D1 blown LS

They do the same here, its a hardship license but you have to get your employer involved and sometimes that is just as bad as not showing up at all...

That's the problem. The second they find out my license is suspended, I'm done.
