Doing this my credit card bill is usually 10-15% of my limit. CHOOOOO$$$$$ CHOOOO$$$$

This. Every company I've worked for wouldn't let a customer pay dent with credit, gmac, citimortgage, mic, chase. Also the issue of paying a secured debt with unsecured debt and servicing fees.

Need to find out what an average coach seat would be...seem to remember it being 15k miles. The cash back sounds like another viable option (ie just buy the ticket with it).
Venture card. 2 miles per dollar spent (when redeemed for travel). To use the miles you just buy a ticket on credit card. Log into card website. Select the airline ticket on transaction history. Click reimburse. Enjoy free ticket.

I've seen some third party companies that will let you feed a mortgage payment via CC through them for like $15 per payment. It could be done but is an additional layer and cost.

http://www.chargesmart.com/ is the one I remember of the top of my head.

just fyi, there's a Large Payment Security Fee that gets tagged on in addition to the $15 for anything over $750.

Unless you are broke, these services will negate any gain on credit card purchases. Check out flyertalk forums for good credit card miles and points discussion.
