  • Paying Mortgage and all Bills on credit cards

... for the point of earning "miles". Anyone do this?

I can see how on the surface this could be done, and be workable if you never carry a balance over (pay the card in full each cycle" but it adds a layer of failure or potential for a screw up.

Anyone do this? Whats your method to keep things safe/workable? Any pitfalls?

I thought most mortgage companys won't let you pay your house payment with a credit card.

My parents did it with everything. I do it will all the bills...

Just pay it off every month... Pretty simple.

I don't have a mortgage yet, but when I do I won't put it on a credit card even if they allow it. I put everything except for my car payment (and will exclude mortgage when I have one) on my credit card, pay it off except for a small balance that rolls over each month.

I pay all my bills with my cc, and I bought my car on my cc too.

I do it with all my bills and normal expenditures.
Usually I earn about $250-$500 a year, but I have to charge around $25k-$50k annually.

All of our household bills are paid on CC also. Makes bill paying very simple and have a monthly record of every payment. That does not even include the HUGE advantage of the cash back.

I've been doing this for years, other than my mortgage. I've never not paid a balance in full. Other than paying bills, there are all sorts of other tricks to rack up the miles/points. I use payments.amazon.com to send money to myself every month (no fees) via credit card. I also used to buy coins from the mint for face value, and free shipping, and just deposit them in the bank.

So currently i pay all my bills straight out of my checking account via automatic payments. It seems I am leaving money on the table. :/

I do this with a lot of other stuff and am debating giving it a whirl on my mortgage, since I just made the first payment. Hell, the mortgage alone would be enough to get me a free flight a year with AA Advantage. Actually, a couple of free flights in the lower 48..

That is the attractive nature of this for me.

Pay with CC, don't touch money that is in checking account, wait for it to clear, pay with debit card.

I pay everything online with cc.

I pay any bill that doesn't charge an extra fee for using a CC with my CC. I know Ford Motor Credit charges a fee, because I tried to set up autodraft for my truck payment to my CC.

I usually just get the cash back on mine, I've considered switching over to an AA rewards card.

My brother does this on his Amex.. The same card he uses for all business expenses as well. He just pays it off in full every time he gets his statement.

He earns an ass load of points.. From what he has said it covers nearly all his christmas gifts each year (points can be redeemed for gift cards) and a number of free flights.

Of course he's probably putting $20k a month on it.
