  • What's the deal with cops?

Not a FTP thread just curious on why they seem to be so lax on their physical standards. I'd say at least a 1/3 of the cops I meet from various cities don't look like they'd be able to run down your average criminal. Do ya'll not have yearly PFT's or what?

Look around, everyone is fat. When only 1/3 of people are of a healthy weight, it really narrows down the candiates to become police officers.

I think after you pass the initial PT during the hiring process you're golden. Unless you're swat in which they have a vigorous PT test every 6 months.

              This.
Although I am in better shape then when I got hired. Most guys are rail thin when hired and can run like the wind. Just like everyone one else, marriages, kids, fast food, etc take their toll. It is not very often your in foot chase either. Even in top shape throw on fifty pounds of gear and see if you can catch a track star 18 year old. We catch them by numbers usually.

seeing that they spend 90% of their shift sitting on their ass, well, there you go.

Maybe that's why they're so quick to tase now. "I'm not chasing this fucker so lets make sure he doesn't run."

I watched part of an episode of cops the other day, and given the guy shouldn't have gotten out of his truck, but as soon as the stop was made the cop ran up to him screaming "taser", then said put your hands up, and while the guys hands were up he got tased. It was pretty damn funny honestly. Turns out the guy was in a truck that was reported stolen, but I switched off before the segment ended to find out if any more details were given.

Sure, let him run so he can steal from someone else, and then they can post on a message board like this whining about effin' thieves.

I would love to get into a friendly foot pursuit with 50% of the cops in any given city. I'm sure some would run me down quickly, but you're right, and I notice it often. There are some big cops out there.

It seems like the fatter a cop is, the longer he's been on the force.

Does writing a ticket require physical exertion?
