  • Why it is important forums not censor post about advertisers.

Pretty interesting implosion of a well known LSx turbo fabricator on LS1Tech. Internet Brands (IB) owns LS1Tech as well as a few other large automotive forums. They take big bucks from advertisers each month and shelter them from bad press. This is one example of what happens when customers bad experiences continuously get censored. Lots of folks on Tech were getting screwed simultaneously and the moderators kept censoring until the company pulled the advertising.

I am glad this forum is pretty lax with their censorship (as seen with the whole TeamJacob cluster). Allows folks to know the companies they are doing business with.

Cliffnotes: KY-Turbos was well known on tech for building turbo setups for lsx cars. Back in March the shop gets "robbed" during a short lapse in insurance coverage. Supposedly 60k worth of hotsides/turbos/etc. are taken, all customer parts. Guy says he's going to do everything in his power to make everyone whole. People even start donating money to help the guy. Guy keeps taking on jobs and taking all the money up front, not delivering, keeps pushing dates back, etc. In September he dissolves the company, unbeknownst to everyone, then buys up some chassis fab equipment. Then on Monday he post on finally post on Tech that the company is gone and if you have cars/parts at KY Turbo that you'll have to contact the new tenants to get it. Turns out the "new tenants" are called RaceFab Chassis, and records show it is KY Turbo DBA RaceFab Chassis. Some folks have 20k in this guy and he shuts it down and tries to start a new shop in the same location and same LLC thinking nobody would figure it out. Now that he's screwed everyone over, everyone is rethinking the original break in and the circumstances surrounding it (like taking hot side pipes that would be incredibly hard to peddle).

Here is where he initially got "robbed":
Forced Induction - Updates on KY-Turbo Shop for those who have been asking about progress on customer's - Disclaimer: Without going into any specifics as to who owned the parts below due to privacy issues and ongoing investigation, here is what is going on. On Tuesday March 13, 2012 at approximately 7:00 AM Central...

Here is the post from Monday where he is claming the company is being desolved (which actually occured months earlier and he continued to take on business during that period).
Forced Induction - Attention all KY-Turbo Customers, Supporters, and Friends: - KY-Turbo Inc has been closed as of December 1 2012, and the Corporation has been dissolved. As you all know the shop was burglarized back in March of this year. It has been difficult not only on myself, but on my family as well as I have...

Real shady, I really don't know if I'd be in the racing game if I didn't do most all of the stuff myself. Obviously since I'm a certified Jew I also appreciate the cost savings, but if I put 5k into someone who turned around and shut the door leaving me with nothing I might be going to jail!

Same shit Hennessy, VT, DTA, etc did and got away with it. If my money was involved, he would get "robbed" and eat a bullet.

I have to admit, one of the main reasons I hang out here, and rarely go the other "big name" forums, is exactly the lack of moderation/censorship (unless it's well warranted). No touchy/feely, PC crap here, if you have the balls to say it, you better have the balls to stand by it. Other forums could learn a few things.

This kind of shit happens every day, and in every industry. Though mechanics and the restaurant industry seem to attract more shady characters than most industries.

I think a lot of this also has to do with this forum being local. Most folks know they will be accountable for what they do/say in "real life" on this forum. On others you got a guy in Kentucky taking thousands from a guy in Arizona. Odd's they will ever "run into each other" are zero.

It is almost scary, this forum has like 2 degree of separation to anyone in DFW (and typically beyond). You post something about your employee, ex, etc. and odd's are someone works there, knows them, etc.

If you are an OG member of ls1 tech you have to remember Brian2006 who was a moderator. He sold led lighting retrofits, car parts, wheels, nitrous and everything. He sold about $7500 in ghost parts, deleted his own for sale threads after selling items, deleted his own negative feedback on his user name. Finally after other moderators were overwhelmed with unique ip user messages about him scamming people he was banned. His led lighting threads are still stickies on the site though

I'm not sure if it was related but about 4 months later nineball sold the website to Ib forums

Yeah Speed Shop have a bad name in my group of friends. Most of us do our own work for that reason. Your paying shops to do a job & the shit still is broke & your out thousands of $$$ & this day in time, You cant afford to fuck up or absorb a shops fuck up. Shit is just getting expensive in every branch of life in general, So car hobby is last on the priority list of Hobbys when parts are already expensive as it is & then add paying a shop labor, Yeah No thanks,I can fuck my own shit up, At least I will learn & know better next time. I have only had 2 really good shops I could stand by & say they did good work in my expierence of shops

Ill take 1 experienced technician over 1 trusted speed shop

How to profit with a speed shop
                      1. Build 4 big horse power cars
                      2. Hire minimally experienced staff to handle extra work load from publicity of high hp cars
                      3. Fire your experienced technicians because the rookies are learning from experienced techs
                      4. Repeat steps 1- 3 depending on how much your experienced techs are making and in flow of eager workers

I have known a few technicians who worked at Ruf in Addison and I can tell you they made the same money at Firestone that they do at a Porsche specialty shop. And yes Ruf hires them directly from Firestone often at a pay decrease because people want to work on exotic cars and build performance parts

That happened very often while Tech was under the ownership of Tony (Nineball).
I call him out on it as often as I can on Facebook. Particular instance was with Joe Honeycutt and t56 rebuilds.
There are many shops on that site that are protected. I'm not a sponsor on any site but then again I don't have anything to hide from.
