  • Another train thread

I took interest in this particular RR crossing accident due to the fact that my best friend was driving the train. As he stated, you just can't get the train to stop. They said the guy was trying to beat the train. According to my friend, he pulled on the tracks, backed up a little so the drivers door was dead center of the track and waited with his arm hanging out the door. He took about a 40 mph impact from the train.

It is just sad so many deaths happen this time of year. At least if he had life insurance, it should pay out if it was an accident.

It's hard to have sympathy for someone in a case like this, and I'd hardly call it an "accident."

Sorry your friend had to see it first hand.

You'd be amazed at how many people do suicide by train. I'm sorry but if I was going to kill myself I wouldn't walk out in front of a train.

Yeah, he must have been union...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Reminds me of all those high school students in Bowie that committed suicide by train on the tracks

Crazy thing is, this is the second person that was killed while he was on a train. Keep in mind that is over a span of 10 years. But each time there is a fatality, they get 4 days off with pay. Makes you wonder what is running thru the Engineers minds when they see some one on the track.

Can't they just look away? I'd almost want to put the coal to it....

Working as a signal maintainer at DART for 12 years...I was involved in at least 3 investigations of suicide by train. The worst one happened on a cold rainy December night at Audelia Rd...guy walking north on the NB track toward LBJ...train came up on him with all the lights on blasting its horn...and he just stood there as the train ran over him. Listening to the operator on the radio was hard...she had a breakdown and the passengers had to help her until help arrived. It was pretty bad. Another one happened late one night just north of Kiest station in South Dallas....guy stood beside the tracks on Lancaster Rd. and watched the train approach him...right as it was about to pass him...he dove in front of the train. That operator had a very hard time as well.

Last year, there was a guy in Abilene commit suicide by train in his GT500. People said they saw him circling around the crossings in town all day long until he caught the express.
