Sorry to hear about this.. It's dangerous enough out there in a car, let alone on a bicycle. One thing I have never understood here is the lack of emergency lanes, or at least some space on the roads. Growing up in CA there was always a good 8' or more on the side of the right lane. Here, too many streets are barely wide enough for 2 lanes and butt right up to the curbs.

I understand the sentiment but how you going to semi blame a guy for another persons fuck up. Either way RIP man. I used to ride my road bike around constantly and understand riding with cars is PITA. I always had closer calls rockign the sidewalks than I did the streets.

It's sad that he left behind two young kids. I don't see how it's the driver's fuck up though. It was dark out and she didn't see him. She wasn't drunk, no drugs, not using her phone...just too dark.

No doubt it's a sad situation for everyone. Everytime I ride in the dark though, I'm aware of the risks...which is why I stay on sidewalks. I agree that some of the sidewalks, at least where I live, can be jacked up and I've almost wiped out a few times before but I still don't ride on the street.

Had Tom's wake tonight....have the honor to get up in the morning to tote his casket. Remarkable the number of people making a showing for this man, and the level of respect he had in every page of his life. If I started today and lived to be 100, I could never come close in the remainder of my time to equaling the man that he was.....

I'm not blaming her b/c she didn't "intend" for this to happen, but just keep in-mind that she rear-ended a bicycle at ~55mph that was traveling her same direction approx. 1 foot from the curb....he had very bright lights on and was doing NOTHING illegal at the point of impact. It was indeed a mistake, but don't be mistaken...as far as traffic laws are concerned, it was her fault.

I came out last night as well and was glad to see how many people came to pay respects. I brought my son who was in Cub Scouts with his boys.
