  • To all the road bikers...

I believe I made a thread about this on the other board but it hit home last night.

I understand people want to ride their bicycles and have the legal ability to ride in the roads but please have some common sense. Last night a guy was run over on the access road of the highway. The guy didnt stand a chance. He was young and HAD a family. Now someone must live with the guilt they ran over a guy and killed him and poor children will grow up without a father.

My uncle is one of those nutjobs with a recumbent bicycle that likes to think he owns just as much road as a 9000lb truck, but it just simply inst true.

Please for the love of God ride on the sidewalk to find a biking trail.

I will never understand how anyone with a lick of sense would trust motorists to watch for bicyclists. I see people riding on roads with no shoulders and a perfectly good side walk 3 feet away. I hate to say it, but bicyclists can be some of the dumbest people out there. Just too many people texting and not paying attention to what is in front of them. It's not about their rights, I won't argue that point. It is about common sense and self preservation.

I ride a motorcycle and can keep up with the speed of traffic and I still don't trust them.

You are supposed to share the road with bicyclists, but in the same respect those who ride should wear proper reflective clothing and should not hold up traffic trying to get by.

This is a true statement. But people get distracted by shiny things, then cyclist get run over. Just sayin............

I always ride the sidewalks and no one has once given me shit?

This is why when I ride around town I still ride my mountain bike and stick to residential streets and alleys, road bike people are nuts. Since I'm just doing it for exercise riding the mountain bike just mean I get to work a little harder and actually have fun jumping curbs and such.

You're asking for a death wish riding on two wheels on DFW roads.

It's always good to make sure it's rush to ride in the street. Some cars make a game out of how close they can get to the bikes. I'm not that brave to ride a bicycle on the street.

I will just say from the highway that one didn't look good. I saw the bike laying over in the median.

I ride a lot and my view is the same as vehicles, bigger one wins. Even if I have the right of way I still do no go until I know the vehicle is yielding. Simple physics says a 5,000 pound vehicle will easily kill a 200 pound bike and rider.

I have had a lot of people come close to me, even on 4 way roads and no one else on them. I even had someone hit me from behind at a 4 way stop sign in a 20mph zone. Needless to say many people do not respect or even look for bikes.

Hell in Austin I saw a ton of people riding down 360, there is no way in hell I would ride down a highway.
