  • Dumb work policies

So I had some free time last night at work and started reading up on some policies we had and stumble across some crazy work policies. We have a bomb threat policy that says if a bomb threat is called (credible) that each department will have an assigned employee by the director that will search their respected department for a bomb.

Who the hell thought that up? Im not going looking for a bomb. They have r/c robots, bomb sniffing dogs and bomb squad people with bomb suits that do that for a living. Are they crazy?

Also, our hostage/guy wielding a gun states our security guy can use deadly force if needed. The security guy doesnt even carry pepper spray much less a gun.

I would like to know the criteria which this 'Director' uses to select this individual.

I was once chosen to 'volunteer' for the defibrillator class at my last employer, but I refused. When asked why, I said 'who am I to interfere with Natural Selection?'...they never volunteered me for anything else. I did not care for anyone that worked there, and was quite surprised most of them had lived as long as they had. That place was full of stupid!

I would bring that bomb policy up to management. I bet their insurance company would flip shit if they found that. The idea that untrained people should go looking for bombs is just laughable.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Pfft, listen for beeping, look for a flashing red light or timer counting down. Don't you watch TV and movies?

We have very few "policies" at my company. There are guidelines and such, or mere suggestions as I refer to them. I do a lot of outlandish and non PC shit that would never fly elsewhere. But as long as I'm in the revenue category, I pretty much do what I want.

The policy says some nonsense about going room to room doing sweeps. look at the ground for packages or items that shouldnt be there, look waist level for anything on the walls, and dont forgot the ceiling too. It also say you should NEVER turn on or off light switch.

I hear bomb threat, I hear lunch break

Who do you work for; if I may ask? You can PM if you'd rather it not be public.
