A local church was going to be giving him work and shelter in January. So he had to live on the streets until then. I asked him if he needed anything and he told me no. So I left, got him lunch and came back. He began to cry and said no one has ever given 2 Sh*ts about him. He thanked me and I asked again if he had one thing he felt he needed to make it a month, what would it be? He said lighter fluid to help keep warm. The next day I brought him a large lighter fluid, big jar of peanut butter and jelly, Tp, and a bag of dog food. I have never seen someones face light up like this guys did. He truly was thankful. On thanksgiving I brought him a plate from our thanksgiving dinner. I went back this weekend and he is gone. The church stated they were able to put him in a motel early and he has been working his butt off for them. I do not give my money to churches, as I don't know where it goes. I would much rather see where it goes myself. I have worked in soup kitchens, but I have never been greeted like I was by this man.
That's very admirable of you. You're a good man

the difference is the NYPD dude isnt tooting his own horn and wanting recognition for helping a fellow human.

Homeless dude probably walked around the corner and sold them for a dime bag and a tall boy and then walked back around barefoot and sat down to wait for the next sucker.

I agree with what you're saying, but maybe we shouldn't kick him for doing the right thing.

This certainly happens a lot, but an overwhelming amount of the people I've been fortunate enough to help are humble, and very grateful. Maybe I haven't been at it long enough, but I came in to it expecting to be jaded, and my experience has proven me to be wrong.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

                      Think you're really righteous?
                      Think you're pure at heart?
Well I know I'm a million times more humble than thou art!

Shhhh please, I didn't do that for public recognition - I did that out of the kindness of my heart. (I'll be back later to bump this or non chalantly ask about an update on the story or some such.)

I also never told anyone until this hit the media. I am not looking for any kind of recognition other than that it happens far more often then everyone thinks. I have seen my Chief do the same and the last Department I worked for it happened a lot as well. This kind of stuff never really makes the media. Last department I worked for someone snapped a photo of him giving some homeless children Christmas presents, he made the back of the newspaper. No one does it for recognition, if they are doing it for the right reasons. Cities have stopped buying those little bears for kids when something bad happens. Most Officers now buy those out of their own pockets. It's the little things that gain peoples trust in the police, however, you have some idiots like Arnold 654 that ruin it for everyone.

just know when I talk shit about cops as a whole, Im not talking about you. I know I will in the future, I just want to make that clear now. Youve always been cool on here, and doing stuff to help others like that is very respectful.

And apparently has a family that wants him back - his brother said his door is always open for him but thats the life he's chosen. Also sounds like he bailed on a wife and 2 kids, what a saint.
