I've got a lot of stories from the late 90s, but luckily none of them involve gunfire.
A Dallas police officer attempting to prevent street racing on Forney Road fired at a racing suspect's vehicle early Sunday morning when a passenger in the car "made furtive gestures," according to a Dallas police news release.
Officer Bernadino Ledezma and his partner Officer Aaron Tolerton saw several vehicles preparing to race in the 8700 block of Forney Road about 1 a.m., the news release said. They turned on their overhead lights and all but one of the vehicles fled.
The officers approached the remaining car with their weapons drawn and ordered the occupants to get out. The driver complied, but the passenger, later identified as Joshua Lyons, 19, declined and made what Ledezma perceived to be a possibly threatening gesture.
Ledezma fired at the car, and Lyons and the driver were arrested, police said in the statement. No one was injured and no weapons were found in the vehicle, police said.
The driver was released after questioning at police headquarters, and Lyons was jailed for an outstanding ticket out of Mesquite, police said.
