well for the employee's sake, they need someone to speak up for them. no way your employer should make it mandatory that you have to come in on thanks giving day. youtube some of the video's of walmart black friday and tell me you would want to work that circus.

I have worked that maddness. Part of the job. And also worked jobs that REQUIRED me to work weekends and every holiday.

I've been in retail as long as I can remember. Every year it gets worse. Every year people bitch about the same thing. Blah blah fucking blah. Be glad you're employed. Be glad someone fought for your right to bitch about being employed. But STFU about it if unless you plan on changing. You applied in retail AND accepted the effin job offered to you.

I'm not happy about nor enjoy the fact that I have to work holidays. But I enjoy having a nice house it provides and enjoy the quality of life I have earned by working it.

When I was in college I took a job at Bass Pro Shops, Thanksgiving rolled around and my boss told me that since I was new I had to work Thanksgiving day(normally I would fly home and then back to work black friday). I took my lunch break that day, called my old boss at Academy got my old job back and put in my 2 weeks notice when I got back. That is how America works not this bullshit I'm going to cry cause my company doesn't treat me right and give me free things.

Academy was closed Thanksgiving day, Basspro wasn't. Academy would give me Wednesday off , closed thursday and then let me come in after lunch Friday so I could fly back to dfw Friday morning.

So you know what you do? GET A BETTER FUCKING JOB. I don't see how that is anyone's problem other than those who settle for shit retail jobs. Nobody is forcing them to work there. Fuck retail. And fuck wal mart.


That said, holidays aren't a given or a guarantee. You don't want to work holidays? Get out of retail and service industries. It's really not that hard.

I have to agree with this post.
You go into a job with Walmart knowing exactly what to expect. So use them like they use you and when Walmart no longer suits your needs, move on.

However, this whole Black Friday thing is out of control. My Station (Fire Station #7) is very cloes to the Eastchase Parkway Walmart in east FtW.
Last year's Black Friday truly helped chip away at our faith in Humanity.
