I read something earlier that mentioned that the striking workers (Bakers Union in this case) are not eligible for unemployment benefits. There will also be no severance pay, medical benefit extensions, or pay for unused vacation. They are cut the fuck off effective immediately.
The Teamsters were not striking, so I guess they would be eligible for unemployment. Regardless, 18,000 people out of work is a shitload...
While I agree that the Bakers Union should have been more flexible, it sounds like they've been circling the drain for the last 10 years. Ultimately, management's job is to keep the company afloat and they've failed.- Darrell
