Another aspect to Hostess' demise. It looks like Hostess was also facing high sugar prices due to taraffs on importing it. The sugar lobby was much to strong to try and fight the tariff, so they went after the unions to reduce costs.

Just one more example of how taxation kills business and jobs..

Unions bankrupted them, too. They got bought out by Flower Foods in 2010/2011. That's pretty reassuring, though. Hostess is a way bigger brand than Tastykake, so surely someone will want to buy them.
