  • Used car question

I bought a used car from Toyota of Plano last month, even got a extended warranty. The car is a 2011 and only had 8k miles on it, the car fax checked out okay. It started making a popping noise when turning, I took it to the dealership, once the saw the miles, they told me to take it to a Kia dealership. So I did, they call me and asked if I knew the car was lowered, I did not. They are going to keep the car over night until they find out what's causing the noise. Anyways, I'm I going to get screwed here? I have a feeling the factory warranty will not be covered.

If Kia denies the warranty due to it being lowered then file a claim on the extended warranty, since that was purchased after the modifications were done.

Sucky part is you will probably get stuck with a deductible.

Well, in his defense, he didn't know it was lowered.

also i'd be getting into ToP's ass too if there's too much trouble. Those are things that should be disclosed. When they did the inspection on the car when they traded for it, that should have been noticed by the tech....

sounds like it is the strut popping, mine used to do that every now and then. Yes, it i do have a lowered kia, but i did not buy it that way.

Also i have heard kia dealerships are normally fairly mod friendly but if it is the strut popping you will probably be SOL

So if Kia doesn't cover it, Toyota of Plano should, since they never told me about the aftermarket lowering and the carfax didn't mention it?

Carfax doesn't tell you if a car is lowered. If Kia doesn't cover I would be up in the salesman's ass and demand they repair it and put stock springs on it IF you didn't really know it was lowered before the purchase.

Do you have pics of this car? I want to see this lowered car that you couldn't tell was lowered.

If the car is lowered then that will void most extended warranties too

If you have to go this route I have a few thoughts about the "extended warranty" part...

                          1. Read the contract. Find out if the part in question is included or excluded. Also chances are the contract excludes modifications, or charges more for them.

                          2. Expect up front for the contract administrator to deny your claim if it is excluded or if you didn't pay the surcharge.

                          3. If 1 and 2 happen your best bet is to hold the dealership's feet to the fire, they are the ones who made the mistake with regards to the sale of the contract.

Good luck, I hope you get it fixed.

Here's a pic for the person that asked... Anyways, here's the update, Kia said they cannot cover it, I called Toyota of Plano and they want me to bring the car on Monday and see what they can do. They didn't say they would fix or not, just wanted to see the car. I hope this doesn't turn into a big deal and they do what's right.
