  • Earfull of gasoline?

    Changing the fuel filter on the coupe, pulled the line off the inlet, gas poured out, I turned my head to protect my eyes and gas filled my ear. It immediately started hurting, felt like someone was shoving a pencil down my ear.. So I ran inside and let water pour into my ear for 15-30 minutes.. Was still incredibly painful. I put some ear drop stuff in my ear and it eased the pain so I could sleep.

    3 days later, my hearing is still fuzzy sounding in that ear, and in the mornings it hurts and at night it hurts.

    My girlfriend keeps bugging me about going to the doctor, but I feel like it's just healing and I'll be fine..

    Thoughts?

      I have no help to offer medically, but know the feeling. I got doused in fuel last year when changing the in-line filter in the Bronco. Fucking sucks.

          I did the same thing once. Hurts like hell. I whent to the ER. They flushed it out, gave me meds, and sent me home.

              ER was on my mind when it happened..

              Was home alone and the car was on jack stands with no filter...

              Didn't get it back together until an hour afterwards.. By that time I was in the mindset of toughing it out like a baby.

                Sounds fucking horrible. Earaches suck ass, never mind one caused by gasoline. I wouldn't hesitate to see a doctor.

                        Last night I was working on the chevelle, taking the stock 3/8" fuel line out. It runs down the framerail and then it snakes it's way in some places I couldnt get my hands. I figured I would just cut it in pieces with some snips and then pull it out. The tank has been out for weeks, but I wasnt thinking about the gas sitting in the line .

                        I made the first cut, and instantly took a healthy stream of gas to the face.

                        It freaked me out, so in my haste to get out from under the car and get the gas out of my eyes, i turned my head toward the stream and it hit me right in the ear. The pain started slowly, but within 60 seconds I was experiencing the most intense burning/stabbing pain I've ever felt. And it was deep withing my ear... not much I could do about that.

                        Luckily, my retarded ass was at home and not at school in Lubbock or at a friends place. My mom is a nurse practitioner; and though she was thoroughly pissed that I woke her up at 1030pm, she helped me out. If not for that, I would have been in the ER last night.

                        I ran to the kitchen and just held my head under the running water, but it didn't do a damn thing for me... this was also about the time that i started to lose my equilibrium and get wobbly. My mom used a turkey baster and saline to flush my ear for 2-3 minutes, while I was in so much pain I couldn't speak. After she was sure there wasnt anymore gas in there, she gave me some ear drops that were suposed to help numb it. Well they didnt work.

                        For the next 2 hours, I was in so much pain I layed on the floor in the dining room curled up in a ball. It felt like someone was stabbing my eardrum with a flaming arrow.

                        Looking back at this, I realize that I'm a dumb bastard... and that I'm probably lucky I didnt mess up my hearing in that ear.

                        I dont know if there is a moral to this rambling or not; I just know that I dont like gas in my ear. Feel free to laugh at me.

                              Iv done the same thing. Take ibuprofen twice a day to keep the swelling down and stick a piece of cotton in your ear to keep out noise. Your inner/outer ear will swell up for about a week and you wont hear right for about 2 weeks. There's nothing medically to do other than keep the swelling down.
