I do find it fishy that an HR expert wouldn't have the foresight to file for FMLA, rather than getting canned for being with her child having cancer treatments. No severence or unemployment either? There's gotta be more to the story.

That having been said, I think that they are a helluva lot more deserving than the rest of the welfare leaches out there.

If she wasn't a fulltime employee for a year prior to leave, if the company has less than 50 employees, or if the child was in RMH for more than 12 weeks, FLMA is useless. It also doesn't provide pay, just leave.

I completely disagree with everything he said. She was doing ok (had a job/transportation) her child got cancer and her life fell the fuck apart. Those are the kinds of people that the government programs were built to help, not the asshats that milk the system. The only "bad decision" she could have possibly made would have been to choose a suitor that would up and leave like that. How would you know a person would do something like that until put in that situation?
