  • Gas explosion in Indy deeeeestroys homes (aerial pic)

INDIANAPOLIS - A huge explosion on the Indianapolis south side Saturday night killed two, injured several others, flattened two homes and damaged dozens of other homes. Twenty-seven homes are uninhabitable, structural engineers determined Sunday.

Indianapolis Fire, Indianapolis Police, the ATF, Homeland Security and other agencies are investigating. A gas leak is suspected but investigators have not yet been able to get close enough to the source to confirm the cause.

No residents are being allowed back into the Richmond Hill subdivision in Perry Township. The explosion occurred on Fieldfare Way at around 11:00 pm and homes on Alcona Drive sustained heavy damage. Power and gas have been shut off in the area. All of the victims had homeowner's insurance coverage and there are no major shelter needs at this time. .

The second pic reminds me of the housefire scene in Wayne's World.

We had some bad shit like that happen where I work, our response to a gas leak has never been the same since. Not a good sign when you pull up and see people walking out with their skin sloughing off.

About 15 yrs ago a lady in my old neighborhood locked her dog in the garage one cold night and put a space heater out there for it....beside a large can of gas. Apparently the dog knocked the can of gas over during the night. When the gas lit...the entire roof blew off like a huge bomb went off, the garage door was blown all the way to the house across the cul-de-sac, and windows were blown out on about 10 houses surrounding her house. The woman and her dog were found dead. And that was just a 2 gallon can of gasoline.

I remember a similar thing happening not to far from a buddies house in Plano in the early 90s. Nothing to that extent though..Jeez!
