We've wanted to go to Australia and New Zealand for years, but could never take off the month or so we would need to really cover it all. I understand it's VERY appealing with all the gorgeous coasts' and terrain. I also heard there's a lot more of it that's desolate wasteland.

Australia has always been my dream destination, the majority of the land is uninhabited and some is uninhabitable. There is far too much to even begin to mention, but researching the natural wonders of that continent makes for a great read when you have time.

I'll admit I had to look up compulsory voting. Now that is some weird shit. I'd imagine a foreigner wouldn't have to worry about it. About a year ago I looked seriously into renouncing citizenship, but not adopting a new country. It makes it nearly impossible to travel.

What's going to crush America IMO, is our dollar will become worthless because we're printing money like it's going out of style. Once that happens, and the world stops trading in US dollars, we're screwed.

I know Canada isn't perfect, but at least my money there won't become worthless. And our personal opinion is that it's a better place to raise our kids, based on family values.

The Chinese are already looking for another currency to invest in instead of the dollar.

Id love to go to Switzerland, but doesn't look like it would be an easy transition, and getting citizenship looks pretty tough too, 12 years, lol.

Foreigners with no direct blood ties to Switzerland through either birth or marriage must live in the country for at least 12 years before they can apply for citizenship. (Years spent in the country between age ten and 20 count double). The person must be well integrated, familiar with customs and traditions, law abiding, and pose no threat to internal or external security.

Australia really is a cool place too, dont know if id go as far as to renounce my citizenship to go there because I didnt like a new president. There have been plenty of shitty ones for all the great ones. The rest of the country is more in danger due to the youth of today and the all out height of laziness everyone has adopted in EVERYTHING they do.

I served 6 years in the military and have lived in other countries, both during and after my service was completed. My wife is from another country, and the two of us have seen how fucked up the rest of the world is. Hell, we met while living in Saudi Arabia, which is about as fucked up as you can get.

My point is, America has it's problems right now. Problems to the point they might not be reversible without violence, but at the end of the day a true patriot does not back away from that. Glenn Beck said it best; "if we loose freedom here, there is nowhere else to go". Moving only worked on the founders because America was mostly uninhabited. The only place like that now is Antarctica, and that is because a nation could not exist there.

Australia is a liberal shithole, albeit a beautiful place from what I hear. All their flaws have been listed already, but how in the hell can you say you are fed up with America, then move to a less-free place? I just don't get it. Now, I have lived in less-free places, but it was for the experience, and never intended as a permanent arrangement. At most, if things got really bad I would send my wife and son back to her home until things settled down while I stayed here to help sort things out to the best of my ability. This is what a man and a patriot does, but this is not what you have apparently chosen.

Your parents are right to not be happy with your choice, but like good hard working Americans they sound like they will let you do just that, because that is what freedom is. Freedom; something I don't think you understand.

I guess what I am saying is I agree with pretty much everything Chili said. Now is not the time to run. Now is the time to do what we can to fix the problem. Running away doesn't solve anything.

Good luck in whatever you decide, but I don't have respect for you or your decision. Probably better off this way, though, because we don't need your shitty attitude getting in our way when we figure out a way to solve the problems we face.
